Here are some closeup images of the 1945 No Monogram half dollar variety FS-901.

The Mint dresses out dies routinely to remove superficial die cracks, clash marks, etc., to extend die life.

Is this variety attributed to just one reverse die?

Given their scarcity I cannot imagine more than one die being involved. Walkers are almost pristine of varieties and haven't been much scrutinized for die pairs.

Are they scarce ... or are they scarce in mint state?

I just bought this 45-P today. I thought it worthy of a closer look.

Maybe ... maybe not. Hard to tell from that crappy picture, but it has the "lump" near the rim. This coin, however, doesn't appear as "smeared" in the area of the motto and the pine branch.

If it has the lumps as seen in my image and the monogram is missing it is probably from the same die. I'm only aware of one die.

Thanks ... The "smeared" appearance of that branch that I'm seeing may be related to strike pressure then. Or it may be digital trickery. I bought a seated half that looked like it had a big gash across the shield on the obverse. The coin arrived and there wasn't a hint of a mark on the shield. May have been something on the lense. That's why buying from pictures is such an inexact science....especially when the pictures aren't so good.

I just started on this site and have 2 1945 Walkers that are questionable. Only under high resolution 20X can you faintly see a portion of an outline for the W. Is this considered missing?

Very probably, but that decision would be up to your buyer!
