When I was a kid this variety could be found in Coin World and Numismatic News advertised as the Perfect Parallel Double Mint Mark. I never found one of these or a 1960 Small Date. This one was found by Al Bobrefski of MI. Submitted to me at the Michigan State Numismatic Society Spring 2012 Convention.

Those seem to be far harder to achieve than one might intuitively think. I wonder what the underlying reason is for that? Probably because they usually let the first punch stand in that case.

Perfectly parallel offsets like that seem uncommon enough that - for instance - one like this gets a bespoke name. I was noodling why they're not so common, and it seemed obvious that they'd probably leave well enough alone if they missed the mark a little left, like this one. Maybe punch it again for the sake of strength, but that's the only reason you'd want to repunch one like this. It's straight and reasonably close to where it should be. Why add a second? It's amusing things like that which keep my head in this game.

Interesting observation SsuperDdave. The first MM actually looks to be optimally placed. Got me thinking about scenes of folks driving a railroad spike or maybe a large tent stake (circus tent). Typically see the light blow before the one that drives the spike. Nice image Ken; crisp and clean MM shot of the RPM.

It used to be hard to get. But I knew a selling on ebay that had a whole roll of these. So they are still out there...somewhere. I still have got the 1960D-1MM-011. That one seems to be the hardest to get for me. Not many collectors have one.

Coop, Which one is IMM-011; CONECA#? Is it #9?

It is the CONECA 1960-D RPM-011 same as the coppercoins listing. They don't have an image yet. I had an image of the RPM, but I can't find it now. 8(

Coop, I'll take a look later and see if I have one. I may have one or two of them. I have my collection of RPM cents and that of the late, Reg Martin.

That would be great. Email me with that information.

Coop, No luck. Didn't have one in either collection. I never realized that one was that scarce.

I've found a lot more collectors that do not have this die yet, than those who have one.

My wife came home from work one day and handed me a few wheaties that she pulled from the register. Included was a 1960-D, I said, "Well this isn't a wheatie!" She replied, "It just looked old and funny to me." Under the loupe I saw that it was this RPM. Let me see if I have a pic...

Here is mine that my wife "found" for me. She is like a variety magnet. This isn't the only thing that she has found without any knowledge of the hobby. Just a few weeks ago she was vacuuming the house and picked up a 1964 cent. Just so happened to be a DDR...

I just told my wife to vacuum. She looked at me like I was crazy.
