Welcome to Coin Community, 7539. There are only 4 possible mint mark positions for this coin, and all are clearly defined. Your coin is consistent with Position #4, but it has a very odd look to it. This does not mean I'm ready to call it a fake, especially looking at it only on my phone. Compare to information here: http://www.pcgs.com/News/Counterfei...incoln-Cents

I agree...I have looked at pictures until I am blue in the face. If it's not, it's a terribly good fake...I bought it with the possibility of it being fake, and therefore not much money involved but it's just sooo close...if it were only a hand grenade.

The only one it might be is #4 which I believe is the most common. I say that you should send it in to be 3rd party graded and then tell us the results.

I appreciate the information. I felt the same way but I wanted to see if it was glaringly wrong, which I didn't think it was, but I am in the dark as it is so close to right, maybe it is right,..

Just for the record, the VDB looks a bit odd imo. The D and the B are a bit too blurry to say definitely.

The date is highly suspicious. I'm going to go out on a limb on this one and say it's counterfeit.

Does look pretty good. I it were mine, I'd send it to a place like PCGS or NGC for authentication. Due to such great condition, should be well worth that cost. And also,

I think you're right, just carl. I also think Ed, Nickel and Acolo are correct also...that's what threw me. The VDB is pretty close to correct under strong magnification...if anything, it is a P that has been post-marked S...however, the S isn't far enough off to say, yeah it's fake, pitch it..I think a professional opinion will be counterfeit although I HOPE it is not....I'm glad to say that my suspicions were correct and you guys kinda see it the way I do, nothing shouts "fake" but not everything looks perfect. I love forums because you can always find an expert. Thanks guys and keep on giving me opinions as I appreciate it...

Give it a shot at a TPG, and good luck. If comes back a fake then you should get your money back -- as you would have been a victim of fraud. Let us know the results.

That is crystal clear thinking, 7539, and let me tell you it is such a pleasure to hear it from a new member posting an '09-S VDB as their first thread. Almost certainly a non-S VDB with an added mint mark. Now, if you haven't already, go get your free registration at Heritage Auctions so you can compare your coin to one of the over 3400 they have high-resolution images of in their archive. I'm sure they have one or two of this MM. The coin isn't real, now that I see it on my monitor instead of my phone, and I guarantee that. Aside the relative weakness of the MM, there's a smoking-gun pickup which I'm going to leave hang for an hour or two to see if other members catch it.

Adding my pile-on comment that the mint mark is highly suspicious ... in particular the 'squished' appearance is not consistent with the otherwise MS state of the coin. My suspicion is not an expert opinion ... recognizing that I am no way an expert on the series. Hopeful to hear from the true CCF experts. BTW ... to the CCF. David

I humbly defer to the experts ... pleased for the community support! Quote: there's a smoking-gun pickup which I'm going to leave hang for an hour or two to see if other members catch it. Already admitted that I am no expert ... thankful for the OP that many of you are. Best - David
