Are the parts listed with the camera the ones that will be needed to make the camera work to take pics of coins and see the coin on the screen at the same time with close ups?
Canon XS EOS-M42 Adapter M42 Focusing Helicoid 17-31mm M42 Extensions 2 sets 7/14/28mm or Vivitar bellows, rail and mount. M42 - M39 Adapter M42 - RMS Adapter Nikon 75mm El-Nikkor Lens Nikon M5 or Plain Objective Tripod or boom base & mount or copy stand, what's best Jansjo light 2
Do I need to add or remove any thing?

Do you have a link to the list or are you putting it together your self?
If I were you, I would hook up with Ray. He set me up with everything but the basic stand and the Camera body and is Excellent! I paid $99.00 for the stand and around @$ 200,00 for what Ray sent me and I think you might be better off and enjoy the results. All you need to decide yourself is what camera body you want. I'm sure you have read about the bodies recommended, and some can be had for the price of a decent coin.
The only thing is I already had 4 of the Jansco's.
That's what I decided on doing, (with the help of my wife, God bless her!).
I think you will be happier that way. Not trying to tell you what to do, it's just my opinion.

That is the full list. Just make sure the camera has software disk with it. Also need USB cable. A round mirror for calibrating coin level to camera. Diffusers (tissue works) for the lights. Start with the tripod, and at some point if you use it a lot and want to get more sophisticated a better stand will be a good investment. If you're only interested in full-coin photos, you can remove RMS adapter and objective. edited to add...Dar responded while I was typing! If you are interested in a stand, I can provide a few options. Dar's was sort of a unique situation since the base was available for a great price on ebay, and I had an extra boom, but I have another complete stand like that one available as well.

If you can help in any way at all Ray, thanks I know every little. Quote: Do you have a link to the list or are you putting it together your self?
Reading and righting it down as I read.

The RMS adapter and objective allows you to do full-resolution close-ups. BUT, to get sharp images across whole width and depth of the field, you will need to focus stack. That is a subject all on its own. I am not sure if any of the folks who have built the <$400 setup have gone down the microscope objective path yet, as I have not seen photos or many questions relating to them and given the extra work involved I'd expect to hear about it. So if your interest is mostly full-coin photos, start with that and get used to the camera and the whole process. Add the objective after that, and we'll teach you how to use it and to do the stacking required to get a publishable image. You will almost certainly find that a fine-focus stand will be needed when you go down the detail shot path, so you'll probably want to do that all at one time. Hope this helps and makes sense.
Well, that's it for me until tomorrow. I'm typing all this from a hotel room in Shenzhen, and my ride is about to pick me up to go to work. It's like 90 degrees and 90% humidity out there, so should be an interesting day, and rest of week. Already homesick.

Just got back from town and Best Buy (just opened) has a Canon Rebel T5 for $399 Canadian, now I can maybe get one cheaper on ebay but I than have exchange and shipping. Is this camera over kill or would it be OK?

The XS looks good. You can use the 18-55 for slabs or larger coins/medals.
Good price on the T5i. It is not really overkill but definitely has features you won't need on a dedicated coin camera.

I have this camera. The macro is not close enough for me. Or I haven't figured out how to use it properly. I wonder what other lens to add for the detail close up photos.

Quote: Good price on the T5i. It's just a T5 I will see what the XS ends up going for, if I don't get that then I will see if I can get the T5.

So I have a Canon Rebel XS 1000D 10.1 SLR with a EF-S11 18-55mm lens on it's way here. It does have every thing else as you would buy in a store. Ray is getting me a stand but we don't know which one yet. We will get this figured out and than see what's next?

The Tominon 35mm is on it's way to you Ray.
So with the stand that we are taking about and the pics in Dar's tread all I would have to do is change to the correct lens -35mm and make light and other small adjustment's ?
The Jansjo lights which will work best clamp or base mount?

I prefer the base mount. You can rig up a clamp to mount them directly to the stand at an appropriate spot. If you like the idea I could even add a mount onto the camera mount so the lights move with the camera.
