Purchased raw. Real (no pun intended)?

24.5 mm, 21.3 g.

Am I completely wrong if I say 8 reales pieces should be closer to 37mm in diameter?

Circa 38 mm and 27 grams would be correct. Some kinds of corrosion proceed in such a way as to leave features intact, but I can't see how that could happen to this extent.
24.5 mm would be smaller than a 2 reales piece (it's about the size of a current US quarter), which would require an uncommon thickness to reach 21 g. I might believe 34.5 mm.

Judging by the year, most likely from the El Cazador wreck.

Someday I will learn how to read my caliper. It is the same diameter as a Peace dollar.

The rim I see means fake : you can see a seam just in the middle, and the pattern is not correct anyway .

Seam is not visible in hand under a 10x loupe. As for the pattern, I have no knowledge.

Interesting on these whenever its 1783 I never bother to see if its a fake. XRF on these normally reads silver at 98-99% with at times all the copper being leached out. I had some read 99% silver. Kool.

For other years and on certain pieces I have found (v.rarely) tin issues being suspected as shipwreck pieces. Not here IMO.

As most of you know the coin ring disappears normally for these types at this level of salt water corrosion.

Nice piece.
