Hey guys,
I am a teller and came across a small portrait 1981 $50 star note. It's not in the greatest shape, but it doesn't have any rips, tears, or pinholes. You can tell it's worn but no fold lines or anything major. I couldn't really give a numerical grade as I tend to stick with coins.

Would this be worth grabbing? It's in my drawer at work but I don't really want to spend $50 on it ($50 is a sum for me). Would I be able to sell it on ebay and make a bit or would anyone on here maybe be interested?

Thanks,
Mike

What district is it? There are some very low print runs from that year and depending on what the district is it could be worth more than $50. Go ahead and trade it out and post some photos if you can. After all, you'll still have $50 and if it's a scarcer run, you might end up with more than $50.

Sorry it's been a couple of days. I got some pictures of it today, it's from Chicago. You guys think I could get more than $50? Sorry but I didn't notice that the picture of the back was bad until I got home.

Only 128,000 stars printed from the 'G' district. You have a keeper and I'm almost certain you'd get over face for this.

What would be the best place to liquidate this? If it's a keeper I'll buy it and resell it to a collector that could appreciate it. I have a currency type set, but I've never been into star notes. I'd just like to pass this to someone who wants/needs it and use the profit to go toward my coin collection. ebay be a good place? The only thing I have trouble with is that there are not many on ebay to compare prices too...

Put it on ebay with an accurate description, good pics and a fair "buy it now" price that covers your fees and postage. Somebody should step up to the plate if they need it for their set.

Good luck!

I don't think the value is there to recoup your cost on ebay.

Just so you know, if you sell it on ebay, you will have to retake that pic of the back of the bill. Buyers like large and clear pictures.
