Hello everyone. I hope you are all doing well. I have a problem I need help with please. I recently made a $70 purchase on ebay using a green dot card to put funds in my pay pal. Shipping was free The item was supposed to get here estimated Fridaythe first. Mail normally comes around 1 pm here so when I got up for work at 2 I looked and it wasn't here. No biggie I figured. I know the mail system isn'tperfect and stuff can take longer. Saturday I checked again before work but it wasn't here still. No biggie I thought. For sure Monday it will get here. I checked again on my way to work. Nothing. I decided to check the tracking when I got home that night. It says it was delivered Friday may first at 12:45! My stomach began to turn. It wasn'tout there for less than 30 minutes before someone took it off my step in front of my door! ebay said to contact seller which we did. He said to contact the shipping agency and he had it insured. Calling the post office they said it had been delivered for sure and the seller had no insurance on it. That's where I am now. Who should I get ahold of next and what should Isay? I ddon't want to make a rookie mistake and lose my $70 forever. With that said the money part sucks but its so depressing that in less than 45 minutes one of my neighbors in the building stole it. Thanks so much. I know you guys can restore my faith in humanity.

In the Uk, at least, it's the seller's responsibility to contact the shipper and claim on insurance. If it's insured by the seller, only the seller can claim as he/she made the contract. If it's not insured by the seller, more fool them; it's the seller's responsibility to get the item delivered to you. Raise a case with ebay for a refund.

same for in north America, only the sender can claim insurance, but in this case there was no insurance. I am not familiar with "green dot" cards, but Visa/MC would be able to help in this kind of scenario, best bet would be to contact the seller first, verify the address he sent the package to, let him know that you never received it. Let me stress the fact that you should NOT suggest to him that it was stolen off your porch, just that you have not received the package, and you do not know where it is (because you don't know). Let him investigate, hopefully he gets back to you in a day or so with good news. if its more than 4 or 5 days, send him an email mentioning that you would like an update, if he does not get back to you in 24 hours, open a claim through ebay. Let me clarify my statements: A) you never saw the post man deliver the item B) you did not sign for the item Because of A+B you have no idea that the item was actually left on your doorstep, it may have been mislabelled, misshipped, or stolen by a disgruntled postee.

Yes, if the tracking says "delivered" and you don't have it, open a case. Like previous post said, you don't know what happened to it.

Opening a case, all the seller has to do is respond to the case by posting the tracking number. the case will be closed in favor of the seller as the tracking number will show delivered. That is my understanding of the policy. I wish I could give you encouraging news, but your best bet is to check with the neighbors and double check with the postman who actually delivered the item to make sure it was left at your door. I hope you find it!

Sorry for the hassle! I am not sure how the ebay case would turn out, as it seems ebay overly favors the buyer sometimes and it was my thinking that until you actually got it it was the seller's responsibility... but with the tracking saying delivered I am not sure. Hope things go ok for you!

Some credit cards provide all risks insurance on purchases.
My BankAmerica card provides 7 days insurance against loss or breakage for items bought with it.
My mum claimed once on her card and was paid back though it took about 4 weeks.

ebay does side with the Buyers 99% of the time, but this is a case where the seller could not do anything more than he did. Once delivery is shown on the tracking it is up to the buyer to find what happened to the item. Tracking is one of the many things ebay advocates to sellers, had there been no tracking it would be on the seller. I hope you find it, I would be leery of making any other purchases until you can figure out what happened. A charge back won't fix the problem if you have people taking your stuff left at your door.

I agree with others that the Seller did everything he could possibly do to get you your package. The only thing the Seller could have possibly done wrong is address your package wrong. You should verify that with him ..... NOW!
Talk to your letter carrier ASAP. He or she is the best source for information regarding a missing package that may have been left with a neighbor or miss-delivered.
In all matters as this, time is of the essence.
Good luck!

Tracking says delivered? Unless the shipper put an address on the package other than your eBay/PayPal registered address, sorry, but the loss is going to be yours. There is nothing else the shipper/seller could do. It's not his/her fault the delivery address wasn't secure.
Consider getting a PO Box.

Thank you for the advice everyone. This story has taken a very odd turn. Today I came home from work to grab something we needed around 10 pm. Nothing was unusual. I grabbed what I needed and quickly went back to work. Around 11:30 tonight I got done at work and started walking home(I am fortunate to live very close to my work) and as soon as I saw my steps from the work parking lot I could see a white package. Lo and behold as mysteriously as it appeared it had reappeared. Again in a short time frame. The address was right on the label and the package and contents undamaged. I'm stumped as to what could of happened. Maybe a neighbor kid stole it and their parent found it and put it on my step? Their is no possible way the post office is involved.

Never suspend your sense of disbelief when USPS is involved. It would be far from the first time we've heard of a USPS package marked Delivered when it was still on the truck, and then casually dropped off later in a spot where you could believe you'd missed it the first time. Your theory has merit, as well.
Let's not worry about why, and just be happy you got it. Might be time to think about a PO box, though.

I've been weighing that a lot. This one was small but its not uncommon for me to get $300-$400 packages sent to me. If I had the seller ship it where a signature confirmation was needed and they left it without me or the Mrs signing for it and they put the status as delivered would the failure of the post office to be able to show someone signed for it be enough to protect me? Our mail varies a lot. Sometimes they knock and take it with and leave a slip but other times they just leave it. Same seller, same package size, same approx value, same shipping used etc. Does anyone know why that is? Is it just some days he's too lazy to carry it back to the truck? (To be fair they do weight a lot with the larger purchases.lol)
