Hello, So in addition to the 1795 flowing hair, this piece is one that I will be reintroducing back to the U.S, and would really love a grade consensus on it. I appreciate all grades and suggestions! It is in the high MS range, with only very minor bag marks. It has no toning whatsoever, and is full white. The piece has not been dipped or cleaned, and has a perfectly intact rim. Usually, I didn't think the hair detail right next to the liberty band struck up well in this year, and also its common to have a bald eagles breast. This coin has sharp details in both areas... Grade away!! Thanks a lot to all!!

Holy Moley macka jaloly... That is one of THE fullest struck O mint morgans I have layed my eyes upon in a while! If you covered that O I would bet serious $ that I was looking at a San Fran coin (without looking at die markers of coarse) but I don't feel comfortable giving a grade other than Unc due to lighting conditions.

I'll take better pics. Thanks to all so far!! I agree, I haven't seen a New Orleans Morgan with the full hair detail to the right of the headband, or such a defined eagle breast...even in MS64!! In a perfect world..dare I say it..., the piece would score an MS-65...nearly unheard of for O Morgans! Better pics in a few minutes...

Based on your new images, I would say that this coin has seen circulation. If you look at the eagle's breast and wings for example you can see slight wear on the high points, as well as the subdued luster.
I think a grade of AU-55 seems about right.

I see no signs of circulation however I do see an unc details I'm sorry to say... See how alot of those hairlines are close together and going in the same directon. Looks like it was rubbed with a cloth or qtip. But let's wait for others to chime in
But if the grader is in a good mood, on a Friday at 4:45pm, I'd say it could get a MS62 though

Quote: Better pictures... Understatement of the day. Nice pics the second time around. I think that I see halos around the devices, but that could be just toning. Where's SsDd when you need him?

Yea I'd have to disagree with the circulated comment, as all the O Morgans have literally non existent eagle breast...the fact this one shows feathers at all in the Centre shows a quality strike.. I'm a little disappointed about the cleaned comment,as it does appear to have some hair lining. Is it possible these are contact marks? I know the O - Morgans are bag coins, and definitely would have been mishandled. I can't say I agree with a "cleaning", but we'll have too see what other think.
I'm hoping for at least an MS63-64 coin, hoping the strike quality would outweigh the marking...any thoughts?

Also keep in mind I heavily muted the luster to show more imperfections.

AU55...this coin has circulated..1880-O Morgans are usually well struck. Most 1880-O Morgans were circulated after minting and then quickly withdrawn from circulation. They were then resealed in Mint bags and kept in banks until the 1960's-1970's.

I see AU details as well. I hope it was not cleaned but I believe that it could have been. Of course in hand it could be MS and I wish you the best of luck.
If ms I still wouldn't see it go above ms62.

Just because this coin has seen circulation doesn't mean it can't be ms. I think MS60.

I hope I'm wrong about the cleaning and I could be. 1893s is correct about the 88o's but it still has a shot at 62 but probably au58 I think if not a details. I just don't see higher. [Where's SsDd when you need him?] He's CclarkKkent right now

Quote: I see AU details as well. I hope it was not cleaned but I believe that it could have been. I don't believe this coin has been cleaned, the hairlines present are very common on upper grade AU coins (AU-55/AU-58). They are just from light circulation.
