I have never been a big collector of toned coins. Does this look natural or man made.. thanks

My opinion is that the distinction is totally artificial. Toning can never be natural any more than a coin can be natural. They don't grow on trees! And toning is always the result of environmental factors into which coins have been placed by humans, more or less deliberately. I have a 1972 silver Eisenhower with spectacular toning which has developed because I have a habit of carrying it in my breast pocket wrapped in a handkerchief. I also have a 1958 Austrian 50 groschen proof which has very strong toning, apparently from the holder it was issued in. I wouldn't know how to distinguish the two, morally speaking.

The greens and blues look normal within the toning spectrum.. it's the "purple" that throws me off some!

I`m on the fence here. While it could very well be the result of someones basement experiment, it`s also likely that some natural factor caused an acceleration in the toning of the coin, resulting in the uneven toning pattern. However, the progression of toning is not "off the rocker" so I'm going to say it's natural.

I would guess...100% natural toning.. I have a few that look somewhat like that.
...and was told that they were probably kept in a paper envelope in the distant past..

I don't like toning. I consider them to be damaged and undesirable.

So then the big question is : considering everything else is equal and true does natural toning devalue a coin from what it's true value without toning ?

Proof of toning premiums are higher prices we see in the market---In the eye of the beholder some basic demand is bring met.

Toning looks ok to me
RE paper coin envelopes.
I bought quite a few coins in the 1980's about 300 all in 2x2 manila coin envelopes.
World coins in silver brass copper copper nickel etc.. just left them in envelopes since then and quite a few of the silver have toned like the 10 cent
