CaC mentions this is Die Deterioration Doubling (which I agree), but the doubling on the branch stem looks a bit like actual die doubling.

I'm no expert in Canadian coins, but looks like Machine Doubling.

Hi Child - the tips of the leaves on the left side of the coin look MD. The date looks like Die Deterioration which is also the attribution attached at CaC. But the stem looks like DD, but it might be the result of touch up work by an engraver or the like.

Seems a good number of the noted doubling at CaC is for MD but there are a few attributed to the Die Deterioration. Oddly enough, other aspect of the coin appears pretty sharp yet - just the date is VLDS.

But I'm here to learn from our Canadian Coin experts. No additional premium attached either which suggests to me that this was a rather common occurrence.

Hi NickelCollector - me neither, but I figured it was about time to evaluate my small Canadian Coin hoard. Here's a link to the resource/information I'm accessing: http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...nt-1965-2012

These are collected even though its Die Deterioration, some of them do have a certain eye appeal. Check ebay..http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_from...&_sacat=3389

I see no Strike Doubling (MD) at all. This coin only shows strong Die Deterioration Doubling. It is exceedingly common for this year. Folks in Canada collect this form of doubling on some coins when it is extreme enough. (Don't ask me why

Why Ken? Why?

I was thinking it was along the lines of something you said elsewhere in that the early texts/attributions originally saw MD as legitimate doubling. Many of the attributions refer to a text published in 1968. Just a guess on my part but I'm looking for resources regarding Canadian Coinage that perhaps captures the legitimate varieties and errors collected.

Did you see the stem? The doubling there looks more legit to me, more like the 1964 I posted in the other thread. Reminds me of the doubling on the columns of LMCs in the 2000s.

Hi Ken - this was the only doubling I felt could be legit. The rest looks like Die Deterioration Doubling although as far as that goes, it seems to be directed towards the date and the left-center devices,

Messy coin...but interesting!

Rackster,
The doubling you see is really just DDD.
