May well be genuine, but as large as the production of these was, they are nevertheless in the present day being forged. Weight rather than photos would be the key to determining the liklihood one way or the other. I will say that the shoulderboards look very crisp and well defined which. if not utterly bogus, would at least suggest it's a post-WWII restrike (which, I realize, is sort of a gray area for its being "real" or not).

What did it end up selling for?

It's not genuine. No such thing as a 5 yuan coin.

Yes, this is a giant fantasy multiple-dollar. Zero probability of it being an actual genuine coin. They crop up on the forum sometimes.
