Found this one tonight. At first glace it looks like md, but looking closer, I'm not sure. The 4 and S are the only areas effected and the areas look incused rather than like a step. It almost looks as if they were pressed down and pulled south. Any ideas? The 1 looks like a Greaser.

With the date and mint mark affected, it couldn't be a hub/mint mark punch issue. The last image makes the devices look like it had a spread, but in the image above it it looks normal. Could it be coin contact on the 4 and shadow on the bottom of the mint mark? (the third image is showing a shadow on the cross bar of the 4 and above the mint mark) You might have a light at a too low of an able for you micro photos based on the last two images?

Oh yeah, now I see it. Very faint so maybe a photo aberration.

Maybe these pics help some. The 9 is also affected to a lesser degree. Also strange is the effect on the 4 is to the north and west and on the mm it is to the north and east. Maybe nothing, but I have never seen this before.

If you suspect it is a shadow, True putting you have there to block the light and the shadow should go away if that is the case. But I'm thinking the angle of the light is too low.

Shot this with my camera mounted to an AmScope with a LED light ring attachted to the scope lens. I then rotated the coin in the same spot by 25, 50 and 75 degrees and there is no change in what I am seeing. I dimmed the light and adjusted the camera and still no change. I then blocked the light almost entirely to where I could just barely see the coin in the scope and still no change. I am pretty convinced that it is not the lighting. I wish I could get a better pic of what I see through the scope, but the pics below are as good as I have been able to get with the camera mounted to it.
