The other day a dealer had a bundle of about 30 Chinese 20 Custom Gold Units notes (P#328) with consecutive serial numbers.

These were in uncirculated condition and very 'crisp'. The serial numbers look to have been 'heavily' impressed.

On close inspection I noticed small, random, somewhat faded, spots of different coloured (pink, green or blue)inks on some of the notes. Looking on various sites I also noticed some others have similar spots and on some of the other denominations in the series.

At a catalog value of about $17.50 in UNC it could be an expensive investment for me.

So my question is could the ones I was offered be genuine? Does anyone know if these have been a target of counterfeiters?

Several of the CGU notes have been reprinted in China in the last 10 years. The usual telltale signs are serial numbers that begin with AB, numbers that are not aligned properly, numbers in a font not used on the original notes, and the copies are lithographed and not intaglio printed.

I used to see Chinese Customs Gold Units notes in dealer's note junk boxes available for as little as $1 each.
By 'used to see', that means more than 20 years ago.

Here are examples of reprints. These are all 2000 cgu notes but the serial number font is wrong on all of them.
