Continuing on my quest to build a strong set of 1888-O VAMS, I came across this one (and around 25 of her little friends from the same die pair). They are all in NGC MS-64 plastic. As you can see it has a "near date", very high "O". Any thoughts as to the VAM? PG

You might want to take a look at VAM 8, 25, and possibly 37. Looks like a good place to start.

Thanks 91o. I don't see any doubling in the ear, so it very well may be VAM-8. I'll wait for the "Daves" to chime in. PG

Based on what little VAMworld has (VAM-8 is as generic as a VAM-1), I'm calling this VAM-25. It's a match for date and mint mark location, and that's the highest, tightest-right MM I've seen on a New Orleans Morgan.
Rest in Peace

It looks like VAM25 to me. Nice looking Morgan for a 64.

And yeah, that is one happy 64 which I feel the boys at CAC would cheerfully endorse.

just wanted to say what a superb coin this is, as mentioned above a CAC is definitely the way to go. when I saw the pic I thought it was an MS-66 and from what I understand the strike is bot bad for the mint.
Feel free to call me Will.

It's definitely about as well-struck as you'll ever see a New Orleans Morgan. Lines in the hair above the ear, full cotton bolls and detailed talons were not often seen in New Orleans.

I have around 30 of these - pretty much same condition and same grade from NGC. Obviously they came from an original roll. If anyone wants one @ "Bid" send me an email. This particular one is up on my ebay store at the moment. (No shameless plug intended)... Just looking out for my homies. PG

Keep in mind they were minted some 25 years or so before rolls were invented.

I stand corrected SsDd. May I rephrase that and say the same "bag"?
