I will as well. I've nearly given up hope at this point, I think I used too much H2O2 and just diluted the vinegar. Now it's midnight here in Seattle, and I have to get up at 4:45 for Jazz band practice at the High School. Best of luck to you, SilverStackerKid.

P.S. Be careful, I've heard of buffs being left in the vinegar too long and getting worn smooth.

Just realized why nothing happened to mine. The bottle marked 'vinegar' was actually full of water. I'll try again.

Add a few shakes of salt to the vinegar and mix it thoroughly to dissolve the salt. That really gets it working fast. Plus you can get some crazy crystals sometimes when the batch evaporates entirely.

I've had good luck using 50/50 mix of vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. Usually it works quick, but I had to leave a couple for 12+ hours and after a few tries would be able to at least tell date.

I accidentally left some vinegar on it one morning and there is this hard blue residue I am sure I can get off with some more vinegar. But I can get some pics tomorrow. It is hard to see the date.

It says 1913. It would be impossible to photograph though.

Nice, SSK. After realizing the 'vinegar' I was using for several days was an incorrectly labeled bottle of water I found some real vinegar to use. It's rice vinegar, so due to the mild yellow hue I decided to test on a common clad half dollar to make sure there is no staining effect. In the morning, if all is well, I'll put the nickels in. I still think one is a 1920 based on the ribbon and hair details, but I want to check.

I don't see how you could mistake water for vinegar. Vinegar has a pretty unmistakable smell that is hard to miss.

Believe it or not, I did the same thing with water. My wife had an old vinegar bottle filled with water for the fish tank. I used it and never thought twice about it. Just figured my nose wasn't close enough to smell it. Realized it out about 3 days later.

Yeah, I used the frozen vinegar thing, it works well. Actually you are partially freezing the vinegar, and supposedly since the acetic acid has a lower freezing point, it will freeze first. So you pour the half frozen slush through a coffee filter or something, and use the ice part for the coins. A bit labor intensive, so I just use the plain vinegar now, and it works fine.
