Hi,

I live in south texas and I search them looking for usa coins like wheat pennys or old coins.

In last few years I gathered up this.
1. 1.23 in cents.
2. 3.75 in quarters.
3. .65 in nickels
4. 1.60 in dimes.
5. 5.00 in Gold dollars
6. 2.00 in one two dollar coin.

Grand totol is 14.23 totol and goes up after I search bank boxs looking for stuff like wheats , 50 State Quarters , pre 64 nickels.

I cant spend them or use them in the usa if they were paper money I think I could trade with my bank for usa dollars.

I amazed the usa goverment federal banks who roll up the coins let those go thru those fedboxs since they are not usa coins.

Any ideas on what to do with them since I cant use them or do anything with them.

They are so similar to the US coins that the machines that count the change can't tell them apart. You can either send them to me (just kidding) or mix them in your change when you cash everything in at the bank. I think you should start a collection of Canadian coins. That's what I do. Actually, I just keep all of them because they are neat coins.

Canadian coins are common among the bordering states such as Michigan for example. We get a ton of them here in our change everyday. I myself went through boxes of rolls and find numerous canadian coins as well.

When I lived in Minnesota, Canadian coins were commonly found in circulation.

They were accepted just like US coins, so nobody paid any attention to them.

I find alot of Canadian coins in my coin roll hunts as well. I'm in New England. I save the ones I don't have yet. And pass on the ones I don't need (except the silver and other rare ones, of course). I either put them back in hand rolled rolls, put them in the coin counting machine (it has no problems with most pennies) or use them around town (especially at the toll booth).

So far I have found $179.55 in Canadian, also $.45 in Bahamanian, $3.77 in Bermudan, $.20 in Euros, 2.14 in UK pounds

Being on, or near the Mexican border, one would thing we would never get Canadian coins, but I get them all the time in rolls. What we don't get is the "P" mint. I have 35-40 canadian cents, and a couple quarters, and nickels. I want to get more of the cents. I keep looking, and average about one, or two per box. A box of them would be nice!

On average, I get a Canadian cent every 10-12 rolls. However, unlike others, I've never found other countries coinage, dimes or whatnot.

Goes both ways. My bank boxes up here are full of those darn American coins that aren't worth as much! LOL Doesn't stop me from pulling them out and saving them, though. I've gotten almost a complete 1964-present set of nickels that way.

Well if you find them let me know, I'll buy them from you....you know just to get them out of your way!! :) I know that if it is a currently circulating coin you can do an exchange for US Currency. Just call the bank and ask them.

I'll tell ya what. Having a large hoard of Canadian quarters over the years sure helped when I was a poor college student and needed change to wash my clothes.

They probably got into the rolls back when the Canadian dollar was worth 60 cents US. You gotta figure every Canadian quarter that was passed off as a US quarter was 10 cents profit. Local banks are anal about this here. They check every roll I deposit except cents. Canadain cent circulate along with US cents here.
