Has anyone seen a modern commemorative silver dollar in a PCGS edgeview holder?
I just picked up an MS69 March Of Dimes dollar PCGS Fist Strike (only bought it because it was $10 less than buying one raw from the mint ) and it has the old style solid ring around it. Checking other auctions all of the MOD dollars have the same ring. Looking at other auctions for Morgans and such they have the edgeview ring. Is PCGS using the old solid ring because a 2015 coin "can't" have a rim ding compared to an older dollar which I guess is the whole reason the TPG's went with that style of holder ring?
Maybe because of the concave shape the of the coin, the solid ring better suites gripping the coin as appose to only the new edgeview holders where they just grip the coin from a couple sides. Maybe they think they coin wont move as much in the older style holders.
I'm guessing they're grading bulk dealer submissions of them at such a low rate that they're using leftover old-style slabs instead of the more expensive new ones.
