The "polished" designation on the slab does not mean it is a special limited edition, it means your coin has been cleaned And to top it off the are (or claim to be) a PNG member 1938 New Rochelle Silver 50c Commem ANACS MS-60 Dtl Polished Presentation Strik 1938 New Rochelle Silver Half Dollar Commemorative Coin ANACS MS-60, Details - Polished, Presentation Strike. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1938-New-Ro...em2ed0f0edb0 Edited by jack jeckel 05/09/2015 8:57 pm

Julian (Julian Leidman, look him up because he's going into every numismatic Hall of Fame there is when he's gone) is just telling it like it is. It's up to the buyer to understand, and it sure looks clear to me. He's ensuring that the fact it's a Details grade - and why - appears in the title of the auction.
Due diligence, guys. You wouldn't have posted the thread if you knew who he was.

Aha! I've learned my new thing for the day, and it isn't even Noon yet. Either way, I expect Julian to get the nomenclature right whether I know about it or not.

Julian Leidman certainly knows what he is talking about, he has owned and traded more high end coins/patterns than just about anyone in the coin business today. http://www.pcgs.com/books/commemora...r08-151.aspxI suppose Julian could be clearer about this coin being one of the first 50 struck pieces. I also would think he would resubmit to ANACS for a designation on the label. I wonder if he still has the presentation box it was issued in? From NGC Collector Quote: Included within this coin's mintage were 50 presentation pieces struck on polished blanks; these are quite prooflike in quality. Some 10-14 matte proofs are also rumored to have been produced, but very few have ever surfaced. The presentation coins were distributed in small, dark red boxes with a velvet liner to hold the half dollar. These were accompanied by a silver medal produced by Tiffany & Company from Lorrilard Wise's original reverse design depicting the New Rochelle seal.

ok, so he knows his stuff.
I think the asking price is beyond reality for a details grade New Rochelle. Numismedia lists MS60 at $339. So at $2,495 my first reponse is 'He has fallen out of his tree.'
I am ready to listen to anyone's argument that will convince me an Unc. Details is worth six times more than Numismedia has listed for a straight grade MS60.

OK, I'll be the first to admit commems are not my area of expertise. This IS in a details slab. Wouldn't ANACS specify this special addition on the holder? Why does the reverse appear like a MS strike and only the obverse looks like any problem silver polished coin I've ever seen?

Even if it is rare, he still should have acknowledged the fact that it has a 'details' grade.

ANACS should have put presentation strike on the holder.
