Can anyone tell me if this might be one of the Snow variety indian heads? It has what looks to be a die error (or a strike through?) in/on the "E" in AMERICA on it's obverse. Otherwise I can't see what it's up to price wise on ebay (currently over $165 bux.

Clik on the pic for an enlargement.

Otherwise it's a nice cent, but you can buy MS62s all day long on Heritage for less than this.

I don't see any Snow variety. There are only 3 for the date and all are found with a broken or repaired ES (in STATES) hub. The coin is a little pricey. Most go for $125-$150.

Thanks beagle! Yea I didn't bother w/ the other coin; yes pricey. So now a second question on a different coin, same seller: do these surfaces look original?, or altered/cleaned/re-colored?

Regarding the 09-S, some people (I used to myself) may be inclined to quickly dismiss the notion that the surfaces are original for a coin like this. However, certain years in particular for the IHCs were known to have very streaky (improperly mixed) planchets. This is true for dates like 1889, 1908, and 1909. While I can't say for sure from these couple of photos whether the surfaces are original, the color does not really bother me.

In the end, you have to like the look and color of the coin yourself. If the color does bother you or you're hesitant, I would wait. Also, it is a raw key date, which is a risk.

I'm less concerned w/ the color, and way more concerned w/ the finish. The coin looks "shiny" to me were most IHC business strikes that are anything less than red, look a little dull or as I often say "dusky".

Why would you be leery of a raw coin? If the price is right, this could well be an AU coin.

You can (if you've not tried it) click on the image and it enlarges.
