Quote: they both look like small date to me I agree. And if the OP seems to have made a mistake as most 1970-S posts seem to be at least he erred on the positive side Congrats on those 2. I still have yet to find one CRH.

Hmmmm. The S is definitely closer to the 9 on the second one. But yeah the date size is hard to tell. For me at least. Would be nice if theyre both small.

Since you have the coins in hand, you could tell better. The markers that I focus on are the tops of the 7 and 0 basically aligned or not; the lower tail of the 7 below the 0 or even; and a blunt inner loop of the 9 pointing at the bottom of the 7 or a narrow inner loop of the 9 pointing toward the middle of the 7. Mint marks were added to the working dies by hand then, so it could be almost anywhere and may not indicate SD or LD. Looking at your pictures again, the lower tails of the 7's look like they are below the 0, which would lean toward large date.

Yes you have one small date and one large date. Ironically the large date is the smaller 7 shown in your last picture. The 3Rd to last picture is of a small date 1970-s

Keep a business card near your computer desk. This will be handy to put on the screen to see if the tops and the bottoms of the digits are in line.
