Hello all I have been collecting since I was a kid and had put my collection away for a number of years.I came across this half dollar that I obtained at one point. Would anyone venture a guess as to value and grade of this coin?

Thanks Nick

XF/AU (tough to say without seeing various angles), but very nice patina/crust. That's the way an old, lightly circulated coin should look.

I am gonna say at least AU on this one. Without having the coin in hand it can be very difficult to grade. The obv seems to be a very good strike for the year , I can see almost the whole thumb on the hand holding the olive branches, and the breast and head details seem very complete. The breast feathers on the reverse appear to be complete but weak, hard to tell from the pic if the leg feathers are worn or just weak. Also, one area I look at sometimes to determine if it has been circulated is the rim, the rims on this coin look very clean in the pics (not banged up ) . Without other angles , I cannot make an MS determination, judging by the patina, it may have circulated for a minute or two....

Also one of the nicest 1916 Walkers I have seen, super nice looking coin !

Hello

Nice pics. for condition grading.
The rev. is better so the grade goes to the obv.
slight rim wear etc. So AU 50 + eye appeal = AU 55

Hi Nicknate,

Welcome to the forum!

You have a really nice coin there. It grades at least AU-50. Depending on luster (which is really hard to judge from most photos) it could possibly slab as high as AU-55. As Prethen observes, the surfaces look original.

As far as value is concerned, if I could pick up a coin like this on ebay for $200 I'd consider it a steal. If you put it up for auction I wouldn't be surprised to see it go for $300 or so.
Rest in Peace

Looks to me like an EF45 possibly grabbing an AU rating. The coin appears to have original surfaces. I think there is a bit to much wear on the upper left leg the right foot on the obverse. I also see no mint luster that should be peaking through particularly on the reverse to snatch an AU. This is of course just my opinion. I have a 1916S Walker in hand graded AU50 bu PCGS to help make the comparison. None the less one of my favorite designs and a beautiful coin! Value between $250.00 and $275.00, again just a guesstimate!! Mike
