I thought it might be interesting to hear about some of the different ways collectors think beyond type sets.

I read once of a person who collected "crown" sized silver from around the world, but each coin had to be at least 38mm in diameter.

What is the strangest, most unique, or most unusual coin collection you have ever seen, built, or heard of?

I love the odd and unusual. Id say the most unusual collection I've seen is my own. Its such an eclectic collection. I really like the small mintage coins, or coins from small countries. The unusual coins I love the most are big coppers, and I'm talking BIG. Bigger than crown sized coins.

I would say one of the oddest over here in Canada would be the counterstamp collection coming up for auction featuring lots of odd stuff such as a token stamped "DUMP THE DRUGGIST" I still don't understand the meaning of it.

My 9-year-old daughter has a collection of coins with birds. I think it's great and she has some really interesting & unique coins. (Not just 50 of the same thing with a different number at the bottom.)

Some time back I used to collect those large sized coins drink coasters. Gave them all away. Now getting a pile of those large Copper 1 oz Rounds sold at coin shows. Another odd thing I collects is 1943 Lincoln Cents. Have virtually thousands of those. Trying to get entire rolls of plated ones done in Tin or Zinc or Copper or whatever. Also, an error collector. Actually there are lots of error collectors around. One odd thing I do is make my own Albums. by that I mean get a hard cover and fill with Shield, Liberty Head, Buffalo and Jefferson nickels all in one Album. To make room have to leave out all Proofs and errors.

A collector I know is trying to acquire at least one coin dated 1949 from every country.
