Hey I thought I share that today when I was at the bank they opened the coin counter and I saw some coins stuck to the magnet in the machine and asked if I could have them. They didn't care...handed over the 3 of them and behold there was 2 canadian coins a steel penny.

I know its not a huge deal, but I'm fairly new to collecting and the be handed a steel penny from the bank was kind of cool.

Has anyone else ever had an experience like that?

Cool find! Still missing that one from my collection, although I doubt I will ever find one at a bank! Nice!

I never got a cent that old from the bank - but when I do get an old cent I get ridiculously happy even if it isn't worth all that much. There's just something about those old coins still being out there in the wild.......

Great find. Enjoy!!

Oh my. I never thought of even asking at a bank about magnetic coins. I usually just ask for large Silver Dollars or Half Dollar coins. Now you gave me something to try at a bank. I want to get more Canadian Cents so this may well be a method of getting those. Thanks for the idea.
And as to our Steel Cents, I have thousands of those.

It is possible. I came across one from a box a few months ago, and had it not crossed my path, it would have ended up going to a customer.

At my bank I get these all of the time. I'm a teller up in Chicago so foreign currency is the norm. The magnets always pick up foreign coins but in the last month I've pulled out 5 steel pennies from the mix as well. Wheat pennies (and steel) are a lot more common in circulation than I thought before I became a teller. I see 2-3 wheat pennies a day.

come to manhasst ny and go to the delis. Just released 35 rolls of wheat pennies last seen in 1955. Got face value for them.

Cool find! I'm surprised the bank didn't want a cent to replace it though.
