nice catch Rob! I have one that I believe to be from 1944 with a strikingly similar die crack, ill try to post it tomorrow.
edit; it is a 1942

The arcs are so regular I wonder if they are from accidentally altered dies. Sort of a whisker from a wire brush or(?) that damaged the die and coins struck subsequently have the "mark".
But the "line" through the upper dot after the "D" certainly appears to be a die crack.

Love it! Thanks for sharing. Now if only I could find such a nice die crack on a KGV nickel...

Really neat to see the progression of the size change in the crack. I see the secondary crack coming off the main one going through the top dot in D:G: area as noted by kanga.

You have to think those two coins were struck within minutes or possibly seconds apart. That die was ready to blow apart! Cool to find them separately at the same store.
I haven't had time to properly examine them for other faint cracks since this is moving week and all of my "coin stuff" (as my wife would say) is packed away. I have been tempted to open them up again to get at my different magnifiers but so far I have resisted. Lol

Very nice finds. Never seen this except for Zoell's pictures. Quote: You gotta love 1943 if you like die cracks! I agree, I think it's the best year for all varieties.

Great to see these 2..
Would the collar have kept all in place for a while longer..?

Hey there srgtommy...This error is listed as FL444e from the Zoell 3rd Edition
Nice find by the way. I also found a 3rd one that is earlier in the progression.
Edit: a word

I think I posted one of these a while back, I'll see if I can get some pictures when I get home. Edit: mines a 42. This is the original pic I posted, you can't see everything but there is 2 seperate cracks coming off the serif of the V that connects to the rim. These 42 and 43 war coins are great for these.
