Please note that a "Clear S" is not an indicator of type. It is only an indicator of how hard the punch was punched into the die. A light to moderate punching will show a "Clear S" while a relatively heavy punch will penetrate to the shoulder of the punch and the S will appear somewhat "filled". The type-2 has more oval centers to the loops and more bulbous serifs.
Thus both types may appear clear or "filled."
This is good news for the variety specialist as some sellers still look for a "Clear S" when designating it as a Ty-2.
You can still cherry Ty-2 Mintmarks with "filled" loops mis-marked as Ty-1.
