I collect antique book mostly, but I found a couple of pins at an Estate sale. I'm originally from Ohio, so I try and get as much Ohio memorabilia as I can. I found this pin, but have had no luck on Google or Bing in trying to find out what it is. I can tell from the feel it is very very old. I'm pretty sure the "Old Guard" is referencing the oldest Army unit. But there are 13 stars on the flag. Anyone see this pin before:

Could be referencing the U.S. Third Infantry Regiment, oldest in the Army And sometimes referred to as the escort of the President:

Not specific to Ohio however...

Thanks for the welcome!

I did Bing the Old Guard and had come up with the same information. What I find curious is the fact that with the amazing internet today, using both Bing and Google, I cannot find one reference or picture to this specific pin. I did do a search on American Flag history and found the flag with 13 stripes and 13 stars goes back to around 1777. I imagine it is a military pin since it is referencing the "old guard". I would think it strange to be sold or given away as a "common folk" pin.

I enjoyed looking at your collection.

I have no suggestions for a website where you could find more information. The only thing that I can think of is that you should try Ohio historical societies and/or university profs. If they don't have the info. you want, they can point you in the right direction.

Good luck.
