An Eisenhower dollar made out of red alder wood. My oldest nephew has a laser engraver, so I had him work this up for me just for fun. I think it's pretty neat. He's going to do a Morgan dollar too.
I'm going to change my avatar to a 1921 Canada 50 cent coin with my username counterstamped onto it and then I want all you guys to send me some more of them.
I recently was on instructables.com where they were showing plans to make an inexpensive laser engraver using the main part of an old DVD-RW drive laser. I might have to get serious about building one. A wooden Ike would definitely be cool to have.
Here is a video of the laser engraver in action. My nephew said that the wood burns "white" initially, so it really looked like a silver dollar during the burning process. You can see this effect in the video. Sorry for the poor quality. It was sent through messaging:
