I pulled this from circulation in 1971. It has been in my collection ever since but since I have never collected errors I never looked into what was for sure.

Clip-Or-No-Clip?

Clip-Or-No-Clip?

so is it PMD or a straight clip?

Edit to add the black hair on the rev is from my English Setter mix. She just had to see what was going on.

It only circulated for 6 years before you snagged it from circulation. Looks like it had a hard life in that short time. Looks quite genuine to me. Congratulation

Isn't a clip an inward concave shape and not flat?

No, there are straight clips. I think it happens when the planchet is punched from the the edge piece of stock. It is fake. The rim leading to the damage tells it all.

Most are as you described but their is a variation to them. I've seen elliptical clips, straight clips,
ragged clips.

Keep it.It's not worth a lot but it is 100% real. Blakeley effect is evident on the reverse between America & Dollar on the rim. The device's are weekly struck in united.

Look above TES in STATES. That would not happen on a real clip.

Why not? Please explain. If your referring to the thicker rim above "TES" that would be another indicator that it's genuine.Strange things happen when an incomplete planchet is struck. That's 3 positive indicators that I have given that it's genuine.
