I realize this is a crummy photo, but compare this to the entry in Hivaz/Stanton's Cherrypicker's Guide: Specifically the points at the arrows correlate to details in the guide. Their guide calls this "The wildest repunching known on an Indian 1c".

Hello Kurt, It appears from your pic to be an 1870 Snow-8 Double die Rev 11-R-III, great coin and it seems to be in a pretty nice grade. It's one of the more sought after varieties for that year. There should be some doubling on both N's on the reverse. Where did you find that beauty?
again, really nice coin

Dave, thanks for the info! My book didn't describe anything happening on the back, but I did see something funny with the denticles. Does this have any added value?

It's impossible to attribute this coin or that variety without much better images.

Hello Kurt, It's actually described as "Many digits in denticles, DDR 11-R-III in Rick's attribution guide. Die stage B should have numerous die cracks on the reverse. It is one of the top coins in the series, should be valued at 5 to 10 times the value of the normal 1870. This is truly a real nice find. It's kind of hard to see from the scan, look for die cracks on the reverse, I think I can see the one at about 10:00. There are less than 10 examples known, pretty scarce variety you have there. Hello again Kurt, I borrowed you pic of the reverse, look for these added diagnostics, I think after blowing your image up a little I could see them. http://www.fly-inclub.org/s-8.jpgLook for doubling on the N's as shown by arrows, and there should be a raised die dot on the N in cent. Later,

Dave...thanks for the info! Update: after visiting some more resources, I'm convinced particularly by the denticles when I blew it up. I also saw a few die breaks on the reverse. Best of all, it was only $175! Here's another reference I found that clinches it for me.

Kurt, if you do have a better Pic and with your permission, we can post it on the Fly-In club talk site for Rick Snows opinion. I can grant you temporary access if you like. If it is not Snow-8, then it is a new MPD variety he would be interested in seeing
Let me know.

Dave--thanks again! I'll post better pics when I have the coin (I just bought it) In the meantime, here's a resample of the reverse with white arrows pointing to probable die breaks, and black arrows noting possible breaks.
