I got two boxes of 500 each 1959 10c pieces as a Christmas present in 1995. I just found the gift box they were in. Checked about 25 pcs so far and found a lot of clashes (two decent ones). Hope to find doubled dies!

I've seen indeed a lot of clashes by that type.

There is a chance that you find one, I've found doubled dies on the 1 and 5 Pesetas coins from same time period..
Hope that you find a doubled die!

Thanks guys! For me it will be a few coins at a time. My hands start to cramp after about 25 coins, unless a roll, bag or box is jammed full of exciting die varieties! On second thought, I have six or seven bags of 1982-84 Mexican 50 Pesos jammed with doubled dies and I've only gone through one 500 piece bag so far after three years or so.

I went through about 30-35 coins from each box today. About 50% are clashes but none particularly significant. One die gouge but not a big deal. Ohh well, may give up after a hundred of so from each box.

I have good daylight lamps above my desk.. I put most of the time 15 or 20 from the same type in a row.. Then go with my loupe over them.. After that I flip them over, so then I can not miss 'big' die axis rotations.. And check all the reverse sides.. Only when I doubt I take them in my hand.. Saves me cramp..

The first bag of Mexican 1982-84 50 peso was light and ended up only having 399 pieces. What I found was:

122 - 1984
1 - 1984 Clashed Dies
31 - 1983
1 - Vegas Casino Token

The rest were 1982 broke down to this:
42 - Doubled Die Reverse (various dual hubbings from the below types -- not broken down by die yet*)
67 - Widely Spaced Balls on Headdress
80 - Some Wide and other Close Spaced
53 - All Close Spaced Balls
2 - Far-from-top-of-Headdress Balls (apparently a scarce die design)

*All the doubled dies known for this issue have been broken down into die numbers in my Vising Varieties column in World Coin News many years ago -- to far back to remember when.

Ken,

Do you happen to have an image of the 1982 Mexico $50 DDR?

I have a handful of ones I want to confirm.

Here is one.
