I recently bought this 1935 Mercury dime on heritage for under a hundred dollars. Link is below. Should I regrade it to a 68. It is currently a 67. With almost a 5000 dollar increase in value and a registry set essential should I regrade it.

I would re-grade it just so I could have a nicer slab. But I'm a neat freak.

I don't think the strike is strong enough for MS68. All the 68's are FB.

To a certain point but it looks like 67 is the plateau for a non FB Mercury. I could be wrong, however. Wait for input from the Mercury dime guys.

I personally have seen non fb Mercury dimes reach 67 and I've seen quite a few. Then again I have never seen a fb ms68 merc. Perhaps do some more research on population reports on ms68 mercs. I would love a ms68 highest I have is a 42d ms67

Where did you find a price? According to that auction, there are none in MS68. With that given, one can expect that many have been resubmitted looking for that elusive number. For that grade, strike is definitely a factor in grade. I won't offer MS68 to a coin which is not fully struck.

Not sure why you would want to even consider trying to get a MS-68 for that coin. Not FSB and just not worth it with so many millions minted. If it was mine, it wouldn't make for my Set #1 or #2.

There won't be any MS68's without Full Bands. A full strike is necessary for this grade.

Don't waste your money. Even if you got a 68 (most unlikely), it wouldn't fetch the dough without FSB. Let's face it - this is a pretty common coin, even in 67.

Looking for this to be a 68 is a bit of a stretch. If you want to throw a few bucks at it for the grins, go ahead, but not a good risk imo.
