http://www.getmorgans.com/?mid=1394939Quote:National Collector's Mint announces a special release of Morgan silver dollars 93 - 136 years old at $29.90 each. Several national dealers charge $32 - $45 MORE for a comparable Morgan silver dollar. These Morgans are among the last surviving originals still in existence, and each coin is guaranteed to be in Brilliant Uncirculated to Fine condition. The last time silver hit $50 an ounce, China was a poor, underdeveloped nation. Now, the Chinese are rich and using three times as much silver! Will this drive the price of silver back to $50 or even higher? Increasing prices of precious metals make every Morgan silver dollar more valuable. But acquiring your own private cache of Morgan silver dollars is a long term investment in so much more... in history... in American heritage...in the splendid rendering of Miss Liberty's profile. And, of course, Morgan silver dollars have not been minted for over 90 years and are no longer in circulation. This comes to show that you should NEVER trust shady mail order companies that make the buyer think they are buying legitimately from the mint. I also like how the website thinks that Morgans, having a huge overhead over silver spot, is a good investment for silver content. Saying " Morgan silver dollar" like the fact it's silver is such a big deal. Additionally, I like how they say the coin will be in "brilliant uncirculated to fine" condition. You guys can hold your horses as I'm ready to buy out all 3887 Morgans in existence for $116k (plus s/h) from them right now! Edited by 0xDA71D 05/31/2015 2:38 pm

I've received this mailing, too. XF/AU 1921 Morgans (most likely what you'll receive from the mail order huckster) can be purchased at one of my local coin dealers for $20 any day of the week (they're in the cull bin, plus no sales tax here). On the other hand, one of the TV coin shows promotes "BU" 1921's at $49.95 + s&h, and they also make a big deal over the prospects for silver going back to $50 per oz. (or even higher). My perspective is that for the minimally sophisticated collector/speculator the $29.99 price point (which decreases with a larger quantity purchase) is neither a bargain nor totally outrageous given that there's at least assurance of authenticity.

I've been seeing adds like that on TV a lot lately. Someone must have billions and billions of them by the way those adds sound.

There are snares out there much far worse than $29.99 1921's, these usually to be found in general merchandise catalogs. I'm thinking particularly of the "tribute" Morgans you'll see offered, silver plated copies that are an absolute, total waste of money. At least a genuine 1921 has some intrinsic value.

Friend of mine from another forum pointed out the coin in their ad is a counterfeit. The obverse - dated 1878 - is the 1921-only design.

Quote: "brilliant uncirculated to fine" condition. Everything about this bugs me, but it's that little bit of linguistic legerdemain that really turns my stomach for some reason.

If this was Wikipedia, every one of their sentences would have a "citation needed" superscript.

Not that such a practice is ideally what you want to see, but I don't think you can infer that the actual product will turn out to be bogus. I'll disclose that some years back (long enough ago that the pricing was lower) I ordered a such a batch, if not from these exact folks, from somebody who was doing more or less the same sort of business, with the same kind of fuzzy condition disclaimer (then, there was a better deal with quantity, which in this particular case is not so). Anyway, what I received was mostly XF/AU, but only a couple were 1921's, actually. One of the 1878-1904's was actually low MS, and one was probably down in the high VF range. They were certainly all genuine, and none cleaned or damaged. So all in all based upon my experience, it wasn't any sort of blatant ripoff.
