Looks like a mark resembling a 7, not a true digit from a die. Jeff

What? Kakaratt, that doesn't make sense to me. Looks like a normal coin from here, maybe a little bit of grease in the die witch makes the 7 look a bit wierd.

I was assuming the person of this post was referring to the mark above the 9 in the date as was I. Jeff

When a person who posts and image does not use arrows or be more specific, it's hard to know what they want. I thought he was referring to the actual 7 being lower in relief than the rest of the date. If that is the case, I agree with ChildOfTheWheat on the die being a bit filled with grease on the 7 as being a possible cause. As such I see a very common date wheat with a very minor error in an average grade. Nice observation; educational value only.

Yes, I knew about the grease for the last digit (7), of course you're right no arrows so who knows, lol. Jeff

Although I don't know much about errors, I'll take a stab at it and go with grease.

If it were an actual digit, then it would be raised. The eye can play tricks on us and make us think there is something there. So it would be raised if it were from an actual double struck coin. Incuse if it were a struck through filled letter. (with debris) It is neither, more like a discoloration/stain in that area.
