First off let me say, I know there are no RPMs after 1989. I was looking thought some cents when I ran across this one. It really resembles a secondary, maybe even a third D. I'm sure it would fool beginners looking for re-punched mint marks. It is a rot spot that just looks like another mint mark, there is no other doubling on the coin, and it is a Wide AM.

You are correct. It started off with a split in the plating in 1992, now it a pot hole of zinc rot.

It is a Wide AM? Nice! Zinc rot! I would sell it before zinc rot sets in. Or keep it until the coin is nothing.

I have found many doubled dies, re-punched mint marks and other varieties and errors, but for some reason I haven't found any of the Wide AM 98's, 99's or 2000's. Haven't ran across a 1992 Close AM either, but I'm still looking!

Can't be an RPM after 1989.

What I was thinking of was Grease Mould Doubling. Not sure this could apply to this coin as there is no obvious Greaser action going on.

Right after I took the photo, I threw it into a giant can with other cents to return to the bank. I still have the can, but I don't think it's worth searching through again.
