Ostensibly a 1614 4 reales struck in Mexico, but I have reservations as to its authenticity.

I agree with Lucky Cuss ... The markings are correct (oMF) for the 1614, but it looks strange to me. Mainly because it 'just so happens', to have year, mint markings and denomination so clearly visable. It could happen, but ... Well it's a big 'but' :)
Nontheless, I kind of like it as a pendant :)

Agreed. There appears to be extra metal deposited over certain devices. Some might argue that is due to corrosion in sea water, but that's not what this looks like to me. I suspect it is some form of reproduction made for the use as jewelry. As Dagaz mentioned, it seems well suited for use as a pendant.

Looks like a jewelry reproduction to me as well. Some details are way too smooth (even for salvaged), too much bubbles (for salfaged as well).
