I know this is kind of cheating, but I looked up New Zealand's coinage on Wikipedia and found the information given to be close to the pre-2006 10 cent piece, with the following reverse: 'A Maori koruru, or carved head.'

Assuming that the coin was struck at the RCM (why else would it be in this forum), that diameter is distinctly Canadian 25c, so the lesser weight means it is a 1968 silver 25c.

Silver and copper have different densities (10.49g/cm3 for Silver and 8.96g/cm3 for Copper), the 80% and 50% coins should have either different weights, if volume remains equal. Doing the math, if an 80% Ag coin had a weight of 5.83g, it should have a volume of 0.5725 cm3; a 50% Ag coin with a volume of 0.5725cm3 should then have a weight of 5.57g.
