I recently pulled a 1962 proof nickel out of a coin roll. It's got a nice blue haze on it, but the only problem is, there's these black spots.

I've already tried distiller water, which is likely a bad idea. it didn't come off. What should I do? Pics will be posted later.

The black spots may never go away easy. Sorry to say.

This will have to await pics, because there's absolutely no way to even guess at what you're facing without them. Doesn't mean there's nothing we'll be able suggest to help, though.

Looks like a carbon spot. Bummer. This is a tough one. Acetone will not eliminate it. Verdi-Care may contain it.
Still a very nice coin from a roll.

Well, that stinks. But hey, at least it's a 50 year old proof coin with some nice patina!

Not carbon.

You could try to loosen it up with acetone on a cue-tip, but it would be a lot more work than it's probably worth, and the result may end up less attractive, even if you're very careful.
