I'm thinking of buying these tubes for my pre-1960 nickel hoard, but thought I would run it past the family first. http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/pro...el-size.htmlI have a couple questions about these which I wasn't able to find answers to: first, has anyone here had any problems with them? Second, it states that they are "... slightly larger in diameter and depth which allows for storage of machine-wrapped rolls of coins". Does that mean that they are for rolls only, or are they for loose coins too? If so, I'd imagine the non-rolled coins would rattle slightly? All opinions are welcome and appreciated!

I started using them 7 or 8 years ago and never had a problem. I really like them and they're all I'll buy now.
Loose coins do 'rattle' slightly but it's no worse than the dimes or Ike's I have in round tubes, certainly not enough that a coin would slip off the rim of the coin under it. Actually looking inside a nickel tube it's hard to imagine a wrapped roll fitting inside, but I've never tried one. The ability to stack them for storing is another advantage and of course they won't roll off the desk on you either lol. The only disadvantage I can think of is that they aren't see through so you have to take the coins out to count them.

I use these, although I purchased them all 2nd hand from the LCS. (5 for $1) They smell like really old pennies...but seem to work well. They "pop" when I open them which leads me to believe they're air-tight.

I, too, use these CoinSafe square tubes for nickels (and other denominations). I only recently (last couple of months) started buying them. These are now what I use.
Happy with them, *except* that the tops of the nickel tubes seem to have not separated smoothly from the mold upon manufacture so there is a pointy little bump on the top surface of the top. makes it a little bit of a pain to get the labels to stick to the top, but not really a big deal. I just need to be aware and poke that pointy little bump through the label so that the label adheres well to the tube top. Certainly *not* a deal breaker, but different than the other denomination CoinSafe square tubes I have.

Could you file the point off without poking a hole in the lid?

I've never used them. Had a few a long time ago and can't remember where I got them. Just couldn't see the benefit or improvement in storage. Not sure about space but I think round ones could or would take up less space if stacked up. Just not sure and will probably never buy those.

Quote: Could you file the point off without poking a hole in the lid? Easily. Or maybe snip it with nail cutters. But I haven't found the need to--I just poke the point through the label to adhere the label to the flatter part of the tube top. The point is not an issue for stacking or anything else that I've noted. It's just, uh, different (and pointier) from the flat surface of the tube top on other denominations.

I use them and if you repeatedly open and reuse the tubes the locking knobs on the cap will shear off and the cap will free spin and not stay square. You can usually fit 1 additional coin above the normal number from a roll in there. I have tried to fit US MINT wrapped rolls of halves in their tube unsuccessfully.
I purchased all of mine through numerous positive experience orders from Valley Coin.
