Nice coin! I'd be very leary of the "onsite" coin man be the only person to evaluate and value a high dollar coin like this. There is a bult-in conflict of interest lurking in the background BEFORE he even looks at it. Of course he is going to low ball the Seller....that's how the coin man gets paid. Sending that coin in for TPG would have at least garnered a 62 to 63 and legitimized it's authenticity and solidified it's grade. The Seller left money on the table in my opinion. Besides, what's he gonna have in 20 years? Nothing but a dead horse and memories of how he sold a nice coin to get it!

I would imagine that the pawn shop would send that coin out to be graded after they acquired it. They know its much easier to sell that way.
As for the seller leaving money on the table...I imagine a pawn shop to be one of the worst possible places go sell your coins so yeah I imagine he didn't get top dollar.

It's unlikely that I'll watch that particular show BUT here's my question.
Was it a 1907 OR a MCMVII St. Gaudens?

SSK, it's called Chum's Stash or something like that. Kanga, it was a MCMVII
It was a pretty good show, I only watched the beginning though.

Every person who goes into the Pawn Stars shop to sell their collectible auditioned to be on the show. There was one episode where a man brought in a very rare piece of large size currency and Rick says he has to call his expert to authenticate it. The expert was the actual owner of the note and it was one of his employees who brought the note in to sell. The expert authenticated the note, Rick bought it and off air the money was given back to Rick and the note returned to its owner, the expert whose own coin store was located in another part of town.
This was done to fill air time and for people to bring their old currency to sell for cheap at the pawn shop. I can imagine that there have been many other sales to the pawn shop on air that were for show only and were not actually sold.

Please site your sources. Because I am almost 99 percent sure that the show is not set up.

That show is completely scripted. They're not wasting shooting time on potential dead ends.
