Do me a favor and check out the rty of liberty. From somewhere I remember seeing a DDO listed for that part of liberty, probably in a book at home. Is that notching or damage on the rty.

The "blob" is quite high above the surface of the coin.

Really interesting find. I have a feeling the hole was really deep. Just look at how tall the relief is of the chip!

Ha, I was thinking of coneca 5-0-II+V . It's in Wexler book , The Authoritative Reference On Lincoln Cents. I have one and was trying to lay hands on it to photograph but will have to dig some more to find it. Coppercoins.com does not have one on their site.

Nice one John - I tend to set those more extreme examples aside especially if there is more than one chip on a side.
