I'm gonna go VF-30; not sure if the crud on the reverse near "United States" is toning, dirt or corrosion but it doesn't really detract much from the overall appearance. Nice!

I'm at XF-40-45 from here, an acetone bath wouldn't hurt it.
Nice coin

Thanks a lot guys! And Night-Hawk, I do have a bottle of pure acetone (do I soak and air-dry or wipe gently with a micro fiber cloth)? I read someplace to never clean old coins, so have not done so yet. So glad I found this forum! :D

EF-40. Looks like it was dug out of the ground.

Never wipe a coin with anything. Let it soak in acetone for 15-20 minutes and then rinse it thoroughly under cool, running water. Pat dry and/or air dry on a lint-free cloth.

It looks XF45 to me.

Nice coin. I have this one at EF-45. I would leave it alone. I like them a little crusty. Shows honesty. I would buy that coin and be perfectly happy with it as is. That's just me though.
Rest in Peace

@BH1964, you are missing a step. After the first soak in acetone you should remove the treated coins then soak again in new acetone.Pull them and let dry. For more conservation use Verdi-Care.

Yes, XF45 looks about right. Definitely environmental damage above "States". I don't think Acetone alone will do much of anything. Suggestion of Verdi-care is a good one.

EF-45 Details. That crud on the reverse at 11 o'clock is classic advanced PVC damage. If removed, it will show pitting. I would definitely soak it well in acetone to remove any remaining PVC.

Good work and another acetone soak wouldn't hurt. I like it as-is though, it is a better date with strong detail.
