This: Said by the collector Michael Sharp to be "excessively rare". One other known to be in a private collection and one in the Hunterian Museum (Glasgow) collection ... that's it. OK, not a US coin. But kinda puts all those 'rare' coins on ebay into perspective I think. (It's a shilling coin from the reign of Charles I of England, issued around 1638/39 for those that might be interested.)

For me it has to be this CWT Store Card. In a details holder due to a cleaning at some point but it's a R-10 on the Fuld scale, meaning it is the only known example of this variety. And for a touch under $200 it has to be my best buy ever.

For my US type coins, it has to be my 1876-CC Trade dollar. Graded AU-53, it has a mintage of only 509,000. For my Civil War tokens, it is my MS-66 Martin Bros. boots shop. It is a rarity 8, meaning only 5-10 are known to exist, and it is the highest graded Martin Bros token of all TPGs. It may not be an R-10 like Penny Guy's Jackson CWT, but it is my favorite

Sorry but I never keep track of how much a coin is or was worth. I've got virtually thousands of coins and really no idea what I paid for almost all of them.

I like that Jackson store card too .... I grew up between Jackson and Eaton Rapids. I keep a eye out for CWT for areas around where I grew up. That one is a very nice looking example

Quote: please add value to whoever didin't Ah, well, there's the problem you see LC. You buy a TV, you can compare prices for that model between stores. A Morgan dollar, you can look at dealer prices or auction records. But it's quite difficult to fix a price when no example of an item has come on to the market for the last decade or two. I can tell you how much I paid, which was less than the £325 ($510) my copy of the Spink coin guide suggests for a Fine grade coin. But that price doesn't distinguish between this variety and the commoner one. And the Spink guide price appears to have been based on an auction sale back in 2008. Bottom line is I think I got a good deal and that if I tried to buy another similar coin now, I doubt it would qualify for a less-than-$1000 thread. .

Probably my 1611 Spanish half real, in a 14K gold pendant. It's hardly as rare as some of the other coins here, but I still got it in a junk jewelry box for only $15! It's worth around $40.
(Sorry about the lack of images, I'm still figuring that out.)

This 1784 variety is scarce as it is the last appearance of the initials F.F. (assayers Francisco de la Peña and Francisco Arance Cobos) on the Mexico City 8 reales. The common variety of the 1784 features the initials F.M. (for Francisco Arance y Cobos and Mariano Rodríguez). The Krauss guide lists this for over 1 grand in XF -- who knows what it might sell for -- I'm happy to have paid less than that.

Anyone have any Morgan proofs? Those were all minted in the range of 500-1200 pieces and yet AU examples price guide at well under $1000. They just don't go for sale too often.
