On Saturday I won an auction for "50 rolls of BU Canadian Nickels". I only paid $130 shipped for these. I got them today and received 51 rolls all from the 1960's in BU condition (some are even OBW!). I also received another dollar or so in 1960's AU nickels. No idea why only one other person bid on these but I think I got one heck of a deal! Needless to say, a great start to a Canadian nickel collection! Edited by LibertyEagle20 06/10/2015 10:03 pm

Congrats! That seems like a pretty good deal. The seller probably realized about $30 after fees over face value in CAD compared to what you paid in USD. Seems fair to me!

take a close look at 1964 and 1965 for a couple of pricey varieties.
coinsandcanada.com has details of what to look for

I will have to double check for any errors. I looked for the double water line and double date on a few rolls but didn't identify any errors. Another cool thing was the seller also included some loose coins and I got 3 1949's in AU condition. I guess a lot of people must not be looking for Canadian currency (hence the cheap price). I figure they will probably go up in value someday considering their age and condition. Plus the RCM is pulling them out of circulation when they can so they will only get harder to find. I don't see too many pre 1981's here in the US.

Congrats on this for sure! The Canadian NIckels are some of my favorite coins to collect. You cannot beat the look of a set in an album with the 1940s and beyond being made out of various medals and different shapes. Then there is the cool Morse Code message around the perimeter of some of the war years, "We Win When We Work Willingly." A lot of character! If you look closely you will also likely find other anomalies. Back then the Canadian Mint was not the well-oiled machine it is nowadays. Die cracks, MD, over polished dies etc. never seemed to hard to find.
