I don't think there is any premium. It is my understanding that Redfields, in general, are considered over-graded. Note, this one carries a MS-65 grade as sold, but NGC grades it MS-63.

Disregarding the paramount holder grade, is there any premium above a usual coin of the same NGC grade?

The OP coin is over-graded at MS63 in my opinion.

I think that coin would have to struggle to make MS-62. First Redfield coin I've seen in a long time.

A lot of the original Paramount Redfield dollars were over graded in the MS-65 and many of the coins in the MS-60 holders were under graded. Yes they do carry a premium if the holder says From the Redfield Collection. How much of a premium over market value depends on the date/grade. There were very low quantities of some dates which some people will pay quite a premium for. These coins sold so well Paramount put more Morgan dollars in the same style holders without any reference to the Redfield Collection and those have no premium over a raw coin.

I saw a nice group of the Paramount red holder Redfield dollars at the recent TNA show, a few CC and others, most were priced around $40-50 over the going rate of the coins retial for the holder. While not rare, the holders are getting more and more scarce to find intact.

Quote: A lot of the original Paramount Redfield dollars were over graded in the MS-65 and many of the coins in the MS-60 holders were under graded. A lot of people say this, but strictly speaking it isn't or at least wasn't true. You have to remember that at the time these were graded and holdered the MS grading system did not exist. The only firm using it was Paramount and there were only two MS grades 60 and 65. So if a coin was nicer than the typical rum of the mill uncirculated coin it was a MS-65 Any thing less than that but still with no wear was a 60. By those standard they were correctly graded. To judge them otherwise is unfair. Say ten years from now they managed to push through a 100 point grading system Would you say we overgraded or undergraded coins today because we didn't use a system from 10 years in the future?
