Either a proof or the business die pair of Snow 2. If it is the latter, then it quite rare as I am only aware of a single VF35.

Bingo, Indiancentvarieties, you are correct and well done. There are actually two known, this being the highest-graded.

Very nice coin.....did you buy this from Rick? I know I saw it posted on his website a while back.

The digit punch was used more on the proof coins for the date.....interestingly, the same digit punch was used on 2c coins from the same year, and is quite scarce on those too.

RedRaider - Yes, I traded for it from Rick. It's probably the rarest variety in the IHC series, essentially non-collectible, so who knows what its value is.

Correct, the closely-spaced "71" is quite similar on the 1871 Proof PR-2, also seldom seen, although they are clearly from different dies.

Also good input on the 2 cent piece - you know your stuff.
