I was bidding on this coin simply because it's one of the worst looking MS-65 coins I've seen.

What do others think of it?

Is the grade accurate with all the carbon spots and other issues?

One possibility is that it is a defective holder. Also might have been surface contaniments on it before it was encapsuled. I've had copper go off in older slabs, but certainly never anything like this!

Basically the same thinking.
Contamination occurred before it became apparent and was slabbed.

I don't agree with the defective holder idea; PCGS slabs weren't completely sealed (I think they are now).
Possibly poor storage conditions.

The slab looks as though it has tape residue on it.

The cent is a little rough, but has a beautiful red color and the lines in the wheat ears are crisp. I have a feeling it was pulled from circulation early in its life, but not early enough to receive a little environmental damage.

I would send it back under the "Grade Guarantee."
