I might be bidding on a Canon Rebel T5i in the next day or two. Or Sam's club has kits in the $6xx.00 range.
Hoping to avoid any mistakes. When a seller says, comes with all original software.
Does that mean it will have to software for live tether?
If not, is buying that software expensive?
I currently have Canon Zoombrowser EX 5.6.
Will it work with a Canon T5i?
Some of the used camera's state no returns, unless not as described. Should I worry about this type of auction?

EOS utilities (ie tethering software) comes on the CD with every new canon. I bought my EOS rebel XS on ebay used and it did not come with a CD. I was able to co to Canon USA's website and put in the camera' serial number, and this allowed me to download the latest EOS Utilities. Different EOS models allow you to more with the software but all cameras after EOS rebel XS( or 1000D) let you do critical focusing which is the big advantage of using tethering software. Look at this webpage at the bottom. All models marked after rebel XS (pink, tan, green, or yellow) will allow you to tether. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compa...ital_cameras

If you can't return a camera that does not work, don't buy it! I do believe that ebay does have buyers protection, but better to buy from a seller with a 100% rating and a history of good sales.

If you already have Zoom Browser installed, it *should* just detect a new Canon dSLR and run with it. I would expect the camera/software interface not to change much through the generations so as to make upgrading easier.
KEH, my favorite used camera place, has the T5 for $289 and the T5i for $499. Bodies only at that price. That price on a T5 makes it a strong recommendation as a coin-only camera for someone who wants more pixels than an XS - the T5 is very much in the same flavor as a camera.

Wow, $289 is quite a good deal for that camera. It is _possible_ that the later image processing software of the T5 can produce better images than the XS can, but this has yet to be proven. This comes back to my thread on sharpening. Would be nice if someone eventually does a fair comparison.

I got tired of looking .... so I bought the lowest "Buy it Now" for a new camera. Lowest for a T5i. I know I will need some things ...like a memory card. Here is what I bought. .... http://www.ebay.com/itm/12167650621...T&rmvSB=trueIf it will Live tether and work with the 100MM lens, that just got shipped yesterday, then I hope I can start getting better pictures.

With that camera and a Canon 100mm Macro lens, the only problem you now face is that there's no reason why you can't shoot images of a quality equal to whomever you'd consider the "best" photographer here. That was a pretty good price.

Nice buy. I'm glad to see you got one with a US 1 year warranty. Not all ebay camera listings include this.

Thanks .. Dave and Dave.. Now I have to start buying coins that are worth taking pictures of .. I still will have to work on getting the lighting right, and right now I have a tripod .. may have to start looking at a photo stand. I will be reading back through some of these threads, to see what others are using, with lighting and stand.

My new camera ...and the 100mm lens are out for delivery today. And I am stuck at the coin shop One is coming UPS the camera USPS. Not sure if I will need to sign Or if they will leave at door. If it says delivered ... I will run Home and get it. Just a little excited ... And concerned. Also ..not sure if the camera comes with a SD card ... Any suggestion on where and what brand to purchase?

If you tether you don't need a sd card.

For a card, look for either a Class 10 or UHS Class (1 or 3) to have sufficient bandwidth to record video and meet the camera's burst speed for images. You'll want at least 32GB given the filesize of the images. As far as which brand, well, start (like I always do for questions like this) with the Wirecutter: http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-sd-card/

Of course, non coin photography will require a card. If you want to shoot movies or continious stills get a faster card, Class 10 recommended. As far as size, it seems that 16 GB now is the sweet spot between size/price.

Went home for lunch ....the lens was sitting at the front door Been playing with it at the shop ... I am liking it a lot. Now ...waiting for the camera to get here .....US mail not here yet. ----------------------------- Dave .... That site is great, it had a review for best SD card. They recommend the ScadDisk 32B ExtremePlus Amazon $38.00
