Found a nice RPM that looks like 1940S-1MM-001 on coppercoins. Can't match up any markers but the mint mark looks right on.

Location and MM look pretty darn close, but you say you can't see the paired DDO markers? Thanks, Doug.

That location is beyond close. Weird how you can't see any die markers. Could we please get some close ups of the devices please?

Looks correct. It is a double variety. 1940S-1MM-001 and 1940S-1DO-001. Look at the tops of the motto.

Here are some photos of the obverse devices. I am not seeing any doubling. There was so much crud I had to apply some verdicare to be able to get good photos.

I don't see any hub doubling either. So there must be two dies that have the same RPM on them? They are a dead on match for locations of the mint marks.
1940-S-1MM-001-?

This one would probably be the exception to the rule of ID a doubled die by the mint mark? Seeing the side by side, I can see a slight rotation on the lower serif on the coppercoins example.

No they are two different dies. Having the slightly different RPMs on them. The difference is one is a doubled die and the other no RPM. Always nice to see there is a different one out there. Makes me wonder how many have miss attributed there coin? (digging deeper helps us to learn more)

Nice comparative photo demonstration Coop! Is it safe to assume that this is an unlisted RPM?

So far. Probably the most overlooked variety. Probably most just assumed it was 001. So how many out there are miss attributed? This is the first example of mint mark location and the other variety missing I've seen. I did discover a RPM that was also confused, but it was a S/S/S instead of a S/S.

Another one that could be assumed being a different die, but the punching shows a S/S/S instead of the S/S. Note the box on this one.
