Hi, I just got this ?4 Half Cent and the "Head" Doesn't look like other 1794 Half Cents I can find online. Its weight is 6.64 grams which seems about right for a Half Cent. Any thoughts?

Looks fake and artificially aged. The reverse design matches no known 1794 varieties. The head/cap look all wrong in general.

Specifically for the reverse, all that I can really see is the ribbon and the leaves/berries next to the ribbon. The ribbon loops are all wrong for the year, and no ribbon loop shape matches with any of the leaf/berry positions to either side of it.

For the obverse, the cap is too far away from the head. There are visibly a great many scratch marks from what looks like a wire brush, particularly prominent along the rim. Also, look at the enormous forehead indentation, that shouldn't be there either.

The obverse looks nearly identical to this fake:

though the reverse differs.

It might be genuine, never know when someone could have tooled it. But, if you cannot find tooling marks, I will join the fake group

I say fake but you never know. Where did you get it? Any other test done?

Plain old junk, fake, counterfeit, whatever you want to call it. At first glance you can see that!

Two whose opinions I trust have already called it fake in this thread.

I say genuine but reengraved. I would have no idea what something like this is worth. $100 would be my max on this.

Never mind. The reverse gave it away. Look familiar?

Yep looks like someone ground that one down with a disc sander and then put it in a rock tumbler with stain to smooth it out. Good call on the strange wear pattern.
