Has the appearance of type 1.
Type 1 planchet (pre upset) is referred to a blank.
Type 2 planchet (after upset) is then referred to a planchet.
Type 1 or blanks are supposedly less common than type 2 planchets.
The upset process takes the blank and creates the proto rim and reduces the diameter in preparation of the press or coining process.
Curious if any ones knows of a good diameter reference for type 1 (before) and then type 2 (after) preferably for all
US coins? Can not find a reference anywhere.
I thought I read somewhere blanks start out at or close to a coins normal diameter and were then reduced during the upset mill process. Just wondering Thanks, Doug.
